Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire,” “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”) is in early talks to star in Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi feature “Chappie” at MRC.
The story details are being kept top secret, but is based on the short film “Tetra Vaal” about a robotic police force patrolling the slums of South Africa.
Sharlto Copley has already been cast as a police robot working the shanty towns. Patel will play the human lead, a young man in the impoverished town.
Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell penned the script, while Simon Kinberg is producing. The project will be Blomkamp’s first project post-“Elysium”.
