The CW has found a cast for its upcoming TV series pilot “Riverdale,” a subversive take on the “Archie” comics line.
Eighteen-year-old New Zealand-born KJ Apa will play Archie Andrews and Ashleigh Murray has scored the role of Josie in the project, Apa winning out following a four-month talent search. The pair join Luke Perry as Archie’s father, Fred Andrews, and Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones.
The pilot follows intense & conflicted high-school sophomore Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge and their friends as they explore the surrealistic twists of small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater and Archie comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will executive produce with the latter writing.
