“Carrie” TV Series Renewed For Season 2

Amazon

Amazon Prime Video has announced that it has renewed Mike Flanagan’s “Carrie” TV series for a second season.

Flanagan, who adapted Stephen King’s novel, will continue as showrunner and executive producer in season two. In interviews, he has previously teased a three-season plan for the show.

The pickup comes just two weeks after the first season debuted on the streamer and generated a bunch of conversation, with mixed reactions to the liberties Flanagan had taken with the material – even as King approved the adaptation and executive produces.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, says in a statement:

“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether – including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers. It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”

Prime Video says that the series was No. 1 on the Amazon-owned streamer in more than 100 territories in its first two weeks. Flanagan directed four of the first season’s eight episodes.
