NBC is reportedly developing a potential reboot of the ABC comedy “Coach” with “Modern Family” alum Ty Burrell executive producing and potentially starring.
Craig T. Nelson starred in the original which ran for nine seasons from 1989 to 1997. Nelson played Hayden Fox, head coach of Minnesota’s fictional Screaming Eagles college football team.
Jerry Van Dyke, Bill Fagerbakke and Shelley Fabares co-starred in the series.
The prospective series hails from Daniel Libman and Matthew Libman, who co-created Peacock comedy “Mr. Throwback”. Whereas the original was a traditional multi-camera sitcom, this new take will be a single-camera comedy.
Burrell would play a legendary coach who returns home to Minnesota to “rebuild his alma mater’s basketball program and reconnect with his community”.
It marks the second attempt at resurrecting the property, the first being a thirteen-episode revival in 2015 with Nelson reprising his original role. Sources cite behind-the-scenes creative issues as reason for the cancellation.
