Disney has premiered a brief teaser and poster for the upcoming 20th anniversary re-release of filmmaker Chris Nolan’s acclaimed 2006 rival magicians film “The Prestige”.
The clip and one-sheet come alongside a slightly tweaked date of January 29th 2027. Though shot anamorphically on 35mm film by cinematographer Wally Pfister, the title has undergone a conversion that gives audiences the chance to experience the film on 70mm and IMAX for the first time.
It will also be presented in 35mm and Digital 2D formats. Critically, the film has been widely praised, with some citing it as either Nolan’s best or their personal favourite.
In the film Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman), a charismatic showman, and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale), a gifted illusionist, are two young, passionate magicians – friends and partners until one fateful night when their biggest trick goes terribly wrong.
Now the bitterest of enemies, they will stop at nothing to learn each other’s secrets. As their rivalry escalates into a total obsession full of deceit and sabotage, they risk everything to become the greatest magician of all time. But nothing is as it seems, so watch closely.
Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Michael Caine, Andy Serkis and David Bowie co-star in the film, which had a fairly soft box-office turnout but was a hit on home video.
