Emmy winner Jeff Daniels is set to join the cast of the drama series “Bannerman” based on the popular spy novels by John R. Maxim.
The first series to come out of AMC Studios’ co-production agreement with Netflix, Daniels marks the first actor cast in the project but is not playing the title character.
The story follows Paul Bannerman, a lethal covert operative who convinces a group of the world’s most deadly assassins to quit the spy game for a chance to lead normal lives in the suburbs of Connecticut.
Old enemies, bad habits, a paranoid government and an unrelenting ex-cop will make retirement their most difficult mission yet.
Daniels will play that ex-cop, infamous NYPD detective Raymond Lesko. Lesko is currently working a hotel security gig after being thrown off the force for taking revenge following the murder of his ex-partner, who still haunts him to this day.
Lesko is pulled out of retirement when he learns that his daughter – the only person alive he truly cares about – is dating a man who may even be more dangerous than he is.
The project hails from filmmaker Shane Black (“The Nice Guys,” “Play Dirty”) and producer Craig Silverstein (“The Old Man,” “Nikita”). It marks Black’s first foray as writer/director into television.
Black will direct the first two episodes and co-write the first episode with Silverstein, who will serve as showrunner. Both will executive produce alongside “The Walking Dead” alums Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten.
The series will premiere on AMC in the U.S. and Canada and be available on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada 90 days after the season finale airs on AMC.
Netflix and AMC will jointly debut each episode in Australia, New Zealand and Spain, with Netflix carrying it exclusively everywhere else in the world.
