Netflix’s Film Chief Dan Lin Is Out

Dan Lin, Netflix’s current film chief, is out at the streamer.

His exit follows just days after chief content officer Bela Bajaria, VP of film Doug Belgrad and several high-ranking TV executives were also let go at the company along with roughly 1,000 staffers.

At the moment, it’s unclear who will assume Lin’s role, but new CCO Peter Rice is expected to be in charge of finding new leadership.

Lin replaced Scott Stuber in 2024, Stuber had managed to draw major filmmakers with big budgets and paydays, delivering multiple movies with major awards nominations.

Lin was famously brought in to curb spending and increase the quality of the film slate. The result was more mid-size films like “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” “Apex,” “The RIP” along with one or two big swings like David Fincher’s “Cliff Booth” and Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia” film.

Under Rice‘s leadership, Netflix aims to focus on “creating big, buzzy hits”. Lin says in a statement: “It’s been a great privilege to lead this incredible team and work with amazing filmmakers and talent to bring their movies to the world. Thank you to Ted, Greg [Peters] and Bela for the opportunity.”

Sarandos added in his own statement: “I started working with Dan well before he joined us in 2024 and his strength as a producer was always clear. Once he joined Netflix, I saw up close how his dedication to quality filmmaking, rigor around dealmaking and strategy, and collaborative spirit elevated our film business. I’m grateful to Dan for everything he’s done for Netflix films.”
