Stewart Was To Return For “Star Trek: Legacy”

Paramount+

After the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard” came to an end, there was a big push by the fandom to continue with showrunner Terry Matalas pushing for the follow-up series “Star Trek: Legacy”.

That series would’ve seen Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) as Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-G, along with First Officer Raffaela Musiker (Michelle Hurd) and Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers) as special counsellor.

Sadly, that series never happened, with Matalas moving on to showrun Marvel’s “VisionQuest,” which began its run this week.

Appearing on Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes’ podcast Dropping Names (via TrekMovie, Matalas spoke about ‘Legacy’ got – confirming that Patrick Stewart was going to make appearances. However, the show was still only in the idea stage when it got scrapped:

“Legacy wasn’t supposed to just be like we’re just going to keep doing Next Gen. It was supposed to bring in new people, young, switch off. We had a great idea for Worf and Alexander and the Klingons, but it was going to be back to feeling like Next Gen. Patrick was like, ‘I want to come and be the one who gets on the screen and tells him missions.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know why we’re not doing this.'”

The project never officially entered development, and now Paramount+ is winding down its “Star Trek” programming with the last remaining on-air shows “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” and “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” both ending next year.

After that, it’s expected the franchise is going to be rested for a while beyond a new film being penned by the “Game Night” and “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” team.
