“Girls” Is Returning To HBO In New Series

HBO

HBO has confirmed that Lena Dunham’s comedy series “Girls” will return with five new episodes planned for what sounds like a limited revival series.

The original followed four friends navigating the uncertainties of young adulthood in New York City, exploring their romantic relationships, professional ambitions, financial difficulties, and changing friendships.

Dunham created and starred in the series, which premiered in 2012 and concluded in 2017. Dunham will return alongside Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells, reprising their respective roles as Hannah, Marnie Michaels, Jessa Johansson, Shoshanna Shapiro, and Elijah Krantz.

Notably missing from the announcement was Adam Driver, who played Hannah’s on-and-off boyfriend Adam Sackler. The pair’s unpredictable relationship, and its exploration of intimacy and commitment, was a big part of the original show.

Dunham revealed on-set tensions with Driver in her memoir “Famesick” earlier this year. The revival aims to explore the lives of these women now in their forties, rather than their twenties.

Filming on “Girls” is slated to kick off in 2027 with Dunham, Judd Apatow, Ilene S. Landress, and Michael P. Cohen executive producing.
