Nicolas Cage May Ditch Amazon For HBO

Amazon

Actor Nicolas Cage says he wants to work with more Gen Z directors and is unlikely to return to Amazon following his time on “Spider-Noir” earlier this year.

Appearing at New York Comic Con on Saturday morning during a break from work on “Perish,” he was asked about the future of his career in films and he says he’s adapting in order to try and survive as a film performer and actor in what is a “very different world”.

He says part of the problem is “how can you become relevant as things are moving so fast?” and he’s still looking for an answer to that question. One thing he does intend to do though is stick with young directors who are turning away from AI:

“How do you survive AI? Amazon is a very AI-friendly company to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested in OpenAI. I am not an AI-friendly actor. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir.

It’s kind of like I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again. But that’s OK. So I got to get with these young directors who are Gen Z, and they’re going at it their own way, whether it’s through the YouTube culture or whatever it is. They’re doing it from scratch and by hand. I want to get with that.”

He adds that one can “only do so many movies back to back to act” and so in order to keep going he says he may be back on television again – namely with a high-profile HBO series:

“I think I’m probably going to do another season of television… think I might do a season of True Detective. That’s OK that I’m the first to announce that, right? Like Jonathan Turteltaub, he gets a microphone in his hand and he goes to Philadelphia and says, ‘We’re doing National Treasure 3, and Nic’s coming. I’m like, ‘No, I didn’t sign up for that. You got to get these microphones out of these directors’ hands. We’ll see if I want to get together with it.”

Asked what would get him to sign up for a third “National Treasure,” Cage joked: “Ben Gates is going after the Epstein files. That would be relevant. I’ll make that movie.”
