Johnston Clarifies His “The Mummy 4” Role

“Obsession” star Michael Johnston has shot down one theory regarding his role in the new “The Mummy” movie currently in production.

The 30-year-old former “Teen Wolf” star joined the cast in late July, starring opposite returnees from the previous films, including Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo.

Speculation was that he would take over the role of Rick and Evelyn’s son Alex O’Connell. Luke Ford played the character as a 20-year-old in “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” which was set in 1946.

As the new film is tipped to take place in the 1950s, Johnston is about the right age. However, speaking with Attitude, the actor shot down that theory and says he’s taking on a whole new part:

“It’s a new character, but the film is just returning to its original formula. It’s just like that first film. It’s going to give the fans exactly what they want. Rick and Evy are back. We’re going on an adventure again. It’s so exciting. The film rips. It just goes immediately. It’s truly an action film. It’s fight scenes and chase scenes and running through the streets… It’s going to be honest to the original film.”

The Radio Silence duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are directing the next film from a script by David Coggeshall. Sean Daniel is set to produce alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, Clayton Townsend and Paul Neinstein.

The new “The Mummy” is slated for release on October 15th 2027.
