New “Stargate” TV Series In The Works

MGM

Former “WandaVision” and “Agatha All Along” creator/showrunner Jac Schaeffer is developing a new “Stargate” TV series at Amazon MGM Studios.

A writers’ room is expected to open in the near future with Schaeffer, Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell executive producing the project at Safehouse Pictures.

In June came word that a planned “Stargate” revival series had been scrapped by the studio. Martin Gero had been appointed showrunner of the new series, with a writers’ room spending over four months developing the project.

That version was ditched as the studio was concerned the new show wouldn’t have stretched beyond the existing fanbase.

The franchise began as a 1994 film written by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich and directed by Emmerich. That led to an even more successful TV franchise spanning hundreds of episodes.

This will be the first TV series in the franchise since “Stargate Universe” concluded in 2011. The new take falls under Schaeffer’s overall deal with Amazon MGM announced earlier this year.
