Sony Pictures is reportedly in talks for the film adaptation of EA’s “Battlefield” game franchise, according to The Wrap.

Christopher McQuarrie is set to write, direct and produce the film take on the bestselling video game series, with Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan on board to produce and potentially star.

At last report back in April, at least five studios and streamers were bidding for the project, including Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Universal, Netflix and Sony.

The game series launched in 2002 and deals with multiplayer warfare across land, air, and sea in various time periods from WW2 to the near future.

Last year’s “Battlefield 6” was rumoured to be one of the most expensive video games ever created at the time and became the bestselling game of last year (and the franchise) – pushing long-running rival “Call of Duty” off the throne.

The franchise has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, with the most recent game being the 18th title in the series overall. The game series is often compared to “Call of Duty”.

Jesse Stern, Carter Swan, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon and Elizabeth Raposo produce.
