It’s official: the live-action feature film adaptation of “The Legend of Zelda” franchise will be called… “The Legend of Zelda”.
The official logo for the film has also been revealed, dropping during a 40th-anniversary Zelda-themed Nintendo Direct which premiered this morning.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto says the title is deliberate: “Once you see the film, you’ll understand why there isn’t a subtitle.”
Miyamoto also confirms it’s not a direct adaptation but an original film based on the overall franchise.
“This is an original film based on the many stories, ideas, and concepts of the series, built up through the games for 40 years. Through the creative power and visual expertise of the talented production team, It’s become an artistic work worthy of The Legend of Zelda series.
Both the development team from Nintendo and I are also involved, of course. When we talk about the Legend of Zelda, there’s the Triforce. What role do you think it will play in the film? We’ll share more details at a later time, so please look forward to it”
The New Zealand-shot film, directed by “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” helmer Wes Ball, is still on course for a worldwide release on April 30th 2027.
The Zelda movie will star Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link alongside Samara Weaving, Dichen Lachman, Yvonne Strahovski, Uli Latukefu, Lydia Peckham and Sam Neill.
