Sony Pictures and Story Kitchen have announced plans for a live-action feature film adaptation of the pixel art point-and-click indie video game “The Drifter”.
Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg will be producing with Timothy I. Stevenson and Elena Sandoval executive producing the project.
Developed by Australian independent game studio Powerhoof, the pulpy adventure game which follows a nomadic drifter who witnesses a brutal murder. He’s drowned by a group of high-tech soldiers only to then awaken.
He soon finds himself fighting for survival and unravelling a dark conspiracy involving shadowy corporations and a madman’s obsession.
According to Deadline, top writers and directors are already reaching out to sell their pitch for the title which won Game of the Year at the 2025 Australian Game Developer Awards.
Story Kitchen has multiple game-to-screen adaptations coming including film takes on “Streets of Rage” and “Just Cause” along with TV takes on “Tomb Raider” and “Life is Strange”.
