Dan Stevens (“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” “Eurovision Song Contest”) will play Alex Murphy/Robocop in the recently greenlit “Robocop” TV series set up at Amazon MGM Studios.
“The Conjuring” and “Aquaman” director James Wan is reportedly set to direct key episodes of the show first announced in development in 2023.
The series will run for eight episodes and hails from showrunner Peter Ocko (“Lodge 49”) and executive producers Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett.
Also on board as executive producer is Ed Neumeier, co-creator and co-writer of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 original film.
The story begins when a giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime: a police officer who’s part man, part machine.
This time the character is rumored to be a soldier who died in combat before being remade as a cyborg and beginning a new life.
Verhoeven’s film became an iconic sci-fi action film known for its satire of American capitalism, moments of extreme violence and iconic lines. It inspired two sequels, a reboot in 2014, and several limited TV series.
