It’s official, HBO Max has handed out an eight-episode order for its DC Studios mockumentary series, which finally has a title: “The People v. Gorilla Grodd”.
A spin-off of last year’s “Superman” film, the project was first reported to be in the works in November.
Skyler Gisondo will reprise the role of Jimmy Olsen while Jimmy Tatro is officially set to play Gorilla Grodd.
In the series, a superintelligent ape (Tatro) is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part ‘true’ crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen (Gisondo) reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.
Other confirmed “Superman” returnees are Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.
Joining them are Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Dan Perrault, Arian Moayed, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz.
“American Vandal” co-creators Perrault and Tony Yacenda will write, executive produce and serve as showrunners, with Yacenda directing the entire run.
James Gunn and Peter Safran will executive produce the show, which is set up at Warner Bros. Television.
