Popular collectible toys Squishmallows are getting their own movie with Amazon MGM Studios reportedly developing a tentpole family film based around the brand.
The studio is teaming with creator Jazwares and veteran film producer Beau Flynn on the project and “want to create a global-facing, four-quadrant event”.
Right now, creative attachments have yet to be revealed, and it’s not even clear if this will be an animated, live-action or hybrid film.
Your moviegoing experience is about to get a lot plusher. Squishmallows, the popular collectible toys known for softness and irreverent personalities, will come to life in a new feature film.
Launched in 2017, the toys have evolved into a billion-dollar venture across 60 countries, with two of the toys sold per second.
The current Squishmallows universe spans 3,000 original characters ranging from bigfoots and axolotls to even a sentient grilled cheese.
Over 600 million of the toys have been sold to date, with the range also leveraged for licensing in categories like apparel, health and beauty and home décor.
