“Lanterns” Trailer Tomorrow & New Story Details

HBO

DC Studios and HBO will have a panel for their “Lanterns” series taking place at Comic Con’s Hall H tomorrow.

As a result, the new full trailer for the series will be launched online simultaneously with the panel, which runs from 1:30-2:30pm. A teaser for that trailer is online and can be seen below.

EW has also offered new details about the show’s story. As we know, the series takes place across two different points in the timeline – 2016 and 2026.

Almost everything seen in the trailers thus far is from the 2016 segments and follows Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) two months into the latter’s training.

The 2026 scenes are said to revolve around “undisclosed events that the team is saving for a later reveal.”

Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardener/Green Lantern also appears in the series which establishes backstories for the three men – Hal was a former test pilot, Gardner was a gym teacher, and Stewart comes from a military family.

In the series, Sinestro was expelled from the Green Lantern Corps after “attempting a coup”. The Guardians of the Universe are “concerned about what Hal may or may not have inherited from [his former mentor] Sinestro.”

Chandler says: “It was really interesting, because you’re getting into all kinds of different weeds of what goes on in their relationship in the past, a lot of which, for myself, is very personal. I created little things for myself with him that created a relationship that was very intimate and intense.”

Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Nicole Ari Parker, Jason Ritter, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones also star.

The pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as showrunner.

“Lanterns” releases on HBO on August 16th.
