Featurette: “The Hunt For Gollum” Begins

Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. Pictures has posted a video announcing the start of production on “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum”.

Andy Serkis reprises the title role and is also set to direct the film. He can be seen in the clip in a mocap suit, readying himself for a shot on a virtual set before it cuts to some lovely mountainous New Zealand scenery where a film crew is setting up.

Also confirmed to be back are Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins and Lee Pace as the Elvenking Thranduil from “The Hobbit” trilogy.

Jamie Dornan takes over the role of Strider/Aragorn, Leo Woodall will play Halvard, Kate Winslet is Marigol and Anya Taylor-Joy is the elf Seren.

The film will tell the story of the unadapted chapters from “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” with the action unfolding mostly before the events of the first ‘Rings’ film.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” releases in cinemas on December 17th 2027.
