Second Trailer: Sci-Fi Action Epic “Hope”

NEON

Following its debut to raves at Cannes back in May, a second trailer is now out for the action/sci-fi thriller “Hope” which hails from celebrated South Korean filmmaker Na Hong-jin (“The Wailing,” “The Chaser”).

Multiple reactions to the film have compared it to “Mad Max: Fury Road” with it essentially being described as a non-stop chase movie for much of its substantial 160-minute runtime.

The story begins in the isolated village of Hope Harbor, not far from the Korean Demilitarised Zone. Police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung- min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village.

In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung- ki (Zo In-Sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading.

What begins as a simple rural emergency quickly snowballs into something far stranger – a cosmic mystery that tears the town’s sense of reality apart.

Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell and Cameron Britton all appear in the film as aliens, though they aren’t to be seen in this first look.

NEON acquired North American rights to the project, said to be the most expensive Korean film ever made, and will open it September 9th.
