Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that a third “Moana” film is very much in development.
The actor has been on a world tour promoting the live-action “Moana,” travelling from Sydney to London to Rio. In the latter city, he was asked about the possibility of a third instalment of the animated films, to which he responded to Variety:
“Yes, we have talked about ‘Moana 3,’ yes…. But first, live-action Moana, we’ll let that come out first. We have the amazing Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller, who have been our writers … they will pen Moana 3.”
Both animated films in were major box office successes, the first movie grossing $687 million worldwide and the second snagging $1.059 billion worldwide.
Johnson and Auliʻi Cravalho are expected to reprise their roles as the voices of Maui and Moana are expected to reprise their voice roles for the third film – but further cast and story details are under wraps.
The live-action “Moana” movie is set to open in cinemas everywhere next Friday.
