“Weapons” filmmaker Zach Cregger and upcoming “Whalefall” filmmaker Brian Duffield are teaming up for a film adaptation of a viral horror sensation.

Warner Bros. Pictures has won a five-studio bidding war for “Siren Head,” a feature film based on the horror meme created by Canadian creature designer Trevor Henderson. It follows a tall, rotting skeletal figure with two sirens for a head.

The meme was posted in 2018 and has subsequently spawned YouTube animations, fan theories, fan-made shorts, fan-made video games, and fan-made merchandise – racking up 3 billion TikTok views, one billion YouTube views, and millions of Roblox plays.

Warners reportedly beat out Sony, Universal, Paramount, and 20th Century Studios for the project.

The multi-million dollar package will see Cregger and Duffield co-writing the script while Duffield is planning to direct and both will produce. Also slated to produce are Roy Lee, Andrew Childs and Scott Glassgold.

The deal is the first major one following the success of “Backrooms” which has become one of the most profitable films of the year. A theatrical release was key to the deal.
