Universal Pictures has premiered a new ‘countdown’ trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” a little over two weeks ahead of the film’s debut.
While mostly old footage, there’s a handful of new scenes here with new looks at several characters and scenes from Odysseus washed up on a shore with Athena seated besides him, several scenes with Telemachus, Odysseus and his crew arriving in the Underworld and more.
The film tells the story of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, exploring themes of heroism, loyalty, cunning, and the struggle against divine will.
It includes iconic episodes like his encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the nymph Calypso, the Sirens, the sorceress Circe, and all culminating in his reunion with his wife, Penelope.
Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth and Corey Hawkins co-star.
Nolan shot over two million feet of film across a 91-day shoot using a whole new IMAX technology – the first major studio feature to be shot entirely in the format.
“The Odyssey” will be released in cinemas on July 17th 2026.
