“The One Piece” Anime Remake Teaser Trailer

Netflix

Netflix has premiered the teaser trailer for “The One Piece,” the upcoming new anime series adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s classic manga, beginning with the initial parts of the East Blue Saga.

Unfolding across the East Blue sea, a young and rather stretchy young man named Monkey D. Luffy pursues his dream of becoming king of the pirates and sets off to recruit a crew and sail to the Grand Line as he hopes to find the hidden treasure of executed pirate king Gold Roger – the ‘One Piece’.

WIT Studio, the animation company behind “Spy x Family” and the early seasons of “Attack on Titan,” is handling the animation for the project.

The aim of the series is to recreate the story of Oda’s original manga, starting from the beginning, and in a way that feels more accessible to younger viewers and using ‘modern techniques’.

Along with the visual upgrade, the pacing will be tighter as well. The streamer says it will consist of seven episodes, with a total runtime of around 300 minutes, and run to the point at which Luffy encounters Sanji at Baratie.

The original anime took around 20 episodes and double that runtime to get to that same point. The live-action “One Piece” adaptation compressed that down to five episodes.

The anime will launch in February 2027 and comes ahead of the live-action show’s third season, which is expected in the back half of next year.
