Netflix’s animated series adaptation of the “Devil May Cry” gaming franchise has been renewed for a third and final season.
The series originally debuted on Netflix in 2025, with the second season launching in May 2026. Both seasons spent a combined four weeks on the Netflix Top 10 English-language TV chart.
In the series, sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
Showrunner Adi Shankar explains why the series is coming to an end, saying this was always the plan:
“For those of you who have been paying attention to the episode names, I have been showing you the structure the entire time. This was always Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ with guns and a red coat. Season 1 was ‘Inferno.’ Season 2 was ‘Purgatorio.’ Season 3 will be ‘Paradiso.’ These three seasons make up ‘The Force Edge Saga.’ Since inception, ‘The Force Edge Saga’ was designed as a movie trilogy disguised as a television series.”
The series stars Johnny Yong Bosch as Dante, Robbie Daymond as Vergil, and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lady. Shankar serves as showrunner with Studio Mir providing animation.
Shankar previously served as showrunner on Netflix’s “Castlevania” series which ran for four seasons, and is set to do the same for TV series adaptations of other games like “PUBG” and “Duke Nukem” along with executive producing series based on “Hyper Light Drifter” and “Assassin’s Creed”.
