Disney+ has handed out the green light for a new documentary series that’s basically “Welcome to Wrexham” but in the world of sailing rather than soccer.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will team again for the series that will follow the Australian sailing team the pair co-own – SailGP’s Bonds Flying Roos race team.
The series will follow the Flying Roos “across a global racing season defined by speed, pressure and high stakes… a stadium-style championship where identical 50-foot catamarans race in close-to-shore courses at speeds of up to 100 km/h.”
The team is led by driver and CEO Tom Slingsby, an Olympic gold medallist, America’s Cup winner and three-time Rolex SailGP Championship winner.
Jackman and Reynolds say in a statement: “This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine, and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there are pirates in SailGP.”
Brent Hodge serves as director and showrunner for the Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions title, while Rob Mac will serve as executive producer.
The series will be available exclusively on Disney+ internationally and on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S.
