Netflix has premiered the official trailer for acclaimed filmmaker Julian Schnabel’s “In the Hand of Dante” which hits cinemas June 12th and Netflix on June 24th.
The story follows the parallel lives of two people. One is a New York author named Nick Tosches in the 21st century who embarks on a violent journey after he is recruited by a mafia don to authenticate the original manuscript of Italian poet Dante Alighieri’s “The Divine Comedy” stolen and smuggled out of the Vatican.
The other is Dante himself in the 14th century seeking inspiration to write his most important work – each man unknowingly connected through time and their obsessive quest for love, beauty, and the divine.
The film, which had its world premiere at last year’s Venice International Film Festival, jumps between colour for the scenes set in the 14th century, and black-and-white for the scenes set in the present day.
Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, John Malkovich, Louis Cancelmi, Sabrina Impacciatore, Franco Nero, Benjamin Clementine, Paolo Bonacelli, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, and Jason Momoa co-star.
From the looks of it many of the actors are playing dual characters – one from the modern-day and one from the past storylines. Scorsese plays Dante’s mentor.
Jon Kilik, Francesco Melzi d’Eril, Olmo Schnabel, Gabriele Bebe Moratti, Vito Schnabel, and Schnabel produce.
