Cate Blanchett Joins Brady Corbet’s “World”

Universal Pictures

It’s looking like a bit of a “Black Bag” reunion as Cate Blanchett has just revealed at Cannes she will re-team with her co-star from that film, Michael Fassbender.

Blanchett reportedly revealed she will join Fassbender in the newest feature from Brady Corbet which is rumored to be titled “The Origin of the World”.

Corbet’s first directorial effort since “The Brutalist” landed 10 Oscar nominations, specifics remain under wraps beyond it being primarily set in the 1970s though spanning as much as 150 years and taking place primarily in California.

It will potentially be an X-rated film and will be shot using rare eight-perf 65mm cameras, and Corbet has labelled it “really, really genre-defying” and a “looser style” than his prior films. It marks Corbet’s fourth feature following “The Brutalist,” “Vox Lux,” and “Childhood of a Leader”.

No formal studio announcement has been made about the project and no production timeline, distributor or character/plot specifics have been revealed at this time beyond Corbet’s few teases, which include suggesting it will deal with the “history of the occult in America”.

Selena Gomez has also been linked to the film previously, while the work is believed to be gargantuan in size with a “200-page script and a planned 50-day shoot”.
