Jessica Chastain has confirmed that Apple TV will release the buzzed-about political thriller series “The Savant” sometime this year.
Back in September, the show was indefinitely postponed just three days before its scheduled premiere on the service. The delay was seen as a reaction to the assassination of conservative pundit Charlie Kirk two weeks prior.
Chastain leads the show as a top-secret undercover investigator, nicknamed ‘The Savant,’ who infiltrates online hate groups and takes them down from the inside – stopping domestic extremists before they can act.
Speaking with Variety this weekend at the Breakthrough Prize ceremony in Santa Monica, she said the show’s fate has gone from being in doubt to sometime in the near future:
“Before it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to see it,’ but now I can say, ‘We’re going to see it.”
The trade’s reporter indicates that, according to their sources, the project is now aiming for a July release. Apple hasn’t officially announced a new release date as yet.
The show, which has been in the works for over two years, also stars Nnamdi Asomugha, James Badge Dale, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste and Pablo Schreiber.
