Sony Sets R-Rated Animated “Bloodborne” Film

A couple of updates on films based on video game properties took place at CinemaCon in Las Vegas tonight as part of the Sony Pictures presentation.

Irish YouTuber and philanthropist Jacksepticeye is reportedly developing and producing an R-rated animated film adaptation of FromSoftware’s highly acclaimed 2015 PlayStation-exclusive video game “Bloodborne”.

No further details are available at this time. A report in late 2023 indicated that producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and writer Darren Lemke were attached to a potential “Bloodborne” film, but there’s no word on whether that’s still the case.

In a statement, Jacksepticeye (a.k.a. Sean William ‘Jack’ McLoughlin) states: “I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made, but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are.”

The story unfolds in the decaying Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam. The Yharnamites residents are afflicted with a disease that transforms them into horrific beasts. Attempting to find the source of the plague, Hunter must unravel the city’s mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.

The title is considered one of the greatest video games ever made in some circles, and a remake/remaster and/or PC port remains high on many people’s lists. The game sold over two million copies worldwide in its first year and won numerous awards along with scoring a stellar 92/100 on Metacritic.

PlayStation has done little with the property since the PS4 release back in 2015, though a report the other month indicated a game remake was being held up by FromSoftware rather than Sony.
