Talk Of An “Uncharted 5” Game Surges

Naughty Dog, SIE

Ten years after Naughty Dog’s video game “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” released to great acclaim, talk of another entry in the franchise continues to gather momentum.

Last year, around this time, reports surfaced claiming that another “Uncharted” game was coming from the developer.

They claimed the game had been in the works for several years and was said to be one of the secondary projects the developer had been working on outside of their main focus on new IP “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”.

Shaun Escayg, who co-directed spin-off “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy,” was also said to be leading the project as studio boss Neil Druckmann focused on “Intergalactic”.

There were doubts as the scooper’s source on gaming was spotty. Then two weeks ago, scooper Alir (who recently confirmed a new “Metro” title is in development) seemingly confirmed that a new “Uncharted” is the secondary project at Naughty Dog.

That was followed by Shaun Escayg himself posting a photo on Instagram of an old-time canon pointed towards a seaside town and captioned it ‘Research’. The photo was subsequently revealed (via Kotaku) to have been taken at Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago.

A report at Insider Gaming also came up, revealing that “some planning of an Uncharted 5” took place prior to COVID but then seemingly stalled.

It also follows on from Vinit Agarwal, who was involved with the now-cancelled “the Last of Us” multiplayer game, revealing to Tech4Gamers that when the TLOU multiplayer was scrapped, Naughty Dog had two single-player games in development – “Intergalactic” and something else.

Speculation about another entry in the franchise keeps growing, even as the state of a sequel to the not-so-well-received 2022 film adaptation remains unclear. Don’t be too surprised if Nathan Drake appears again in some form in the next few years.
