Every now and then comes word, usually from interviews with the man himself, that master filmmaker Steven Spielberg is a big fan of a recent cinematic work.
Takashi Yamazaki’s “Godzilla Minus One” and David Leitch’s “The Fall Guy” are two such films that Spielberg has reportedly expressed adoration over in the past.
Now, ahead of his new film “Disclosure Day” arriving in June, Spielberg has given an early interview to Empire and revealed his love of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” movies, especially 2024’s second one:
“Recently, I’ve loved the Dune movies. They are among my favourite science-fiction movies, not just recently, but of all time. Especially the second film. I think [Part Two] is the best movie Denis has ever made. I cannot wait to see the third one. I’m sure he’ll show it to me early. I’m such a fan of his.”
Spielberg has revealed that he’s also a fan of Zach Cregger’s 2025 horror smash “Weapons”. In fact, it may have over-impressed him as he tells the outlet it was so good it may have turned him off attempting a horror film of his own:
“I haven’t directed a horror film yet, and I’ve always wanted to, and someday I may. But there have been some great horror films out already that satisfy that itch. When I see a great horror film like ‘Weapons,’ I don’t have an itch I need to scratch. I see ‘Weapons,’ and it doesn’t make me want to make a horror film that’s as scary or scarier than ‘Weapons.’ It satisfies me so completely, it actually arrests my desire to someday make a really, really scary movie.”
Many would argue “Jaws” is a horror film, or “Poltergeist” which Spielberg had a hand in. “Disclosure Day” is slated to hit cinemas on June 12th.
