John Hannah Returns For “The Mummy 4”

HBO

John Hannah, who appeared in the three previous “The Mummy” movies, will reprise his role of Jonathan Carnahan in the upcoming fourth film at Universal Pictures.

The announcement reunites him with co-stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the latter playing his sister Evey in the first two films. Weisz skipped the third but both Fraser and Hannah appeared.

The veteran British actor is also known for his roles in films like “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and TV series like “McCallum,” “Spartacus,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Damages”. In more recent years he made a memorable appearance in the opening few minutes of HBO’s “The Last of Us”.

In the films, his Jonathan character is the less-than-trustworthy and slightly bumbling brother of Weisz’s librarian. He’s a bit of a thief always on the make and ends each adventure with a little something in his pocket.

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (“Scream,” “Ready or Not”) will direct from a script by David Coggeshall. Story specifics are under wraps.

Filming begins this fall in London and Morocco ahead of opening in cinemas on May 19th 2028.
