Kirsten Dunst Joins The “Minecraft” Sequel

Paramount Pictures

Kirsten Dunst is set to play Alex in the upcoming “A Minecraft Movie” sequel at Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary.

In addition, it has been confirmed that Jared Hess is also returning to direct and will write the script with Chris Galletta. Dunst joins a cast which includes Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Matt Berry and Jennifer Coolidge.

The casting is being seen as somewhat amusing as many have been pointing out that Dunst last year told Town & Country magazine that she wanted to be in “Minecraft 2” because “her kids loved the first one and because she’d like to make a pile of cash… Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?”

Story details are under wraps but will follow on from the 2025 feature which had a record $163 million domestic opening leading to a worldwide haul of nearly $1 billion – making it the second highest grossing release of the year.

Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Jason Momoa and Jill Messick produce. The film is slated for a July 23rd 2027 release.

Dunst most recently starred in “Roofman” and “Civil War” and will seeon be seen in Ruben Östlund’s “The Entertainment System Is Down”.
