Sony Phases Out PlayStation Network Branding

SIE

Sony PlayStation has announced that they will be dropping the ‘PlayStation Network’ and ‘PSN’ branding by September.

Insider Gaming reports that an email was sent out to developers confirming that both names will be ditched, the move being done “in order to properly capture the breadth of our evolving digital services”.

The change is visual only and “won’t introduce any technical alterations to our offerings”. What the new name of the network will be is not yet clear with the new name expected to be revealed in the Fall.

All features currently associated with PSN, including core network features such as friends, multiplayer, and trophies, will remain unaffected and available to players.

Developers will be notified in advance of the need to remove mentions of PSN from future releases, materials, and external interfaces.

The news is being marked as something of an end of an era, marking twenty years since the launch of PSN in 2006 during the PS3 era. Sony hasn’t yet confirmed this news though.
