Filming has officially begun on a fourth “Sonic the Hedgehog” film at Paramount Pictures.
Jeff Fowler once again directs while Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara return as producers. Fowler posted a teaser image of himself holding Amy’s hammer and a clapper board on the film’s set – a field of grass surrounded by blue screen.
“Frozen,” “Veronica Mars” and “Nobody Wants This” actress Kristen Bell has been set as the voice of the pink hedgehog character Amy Rose who is capable of time travel in the games. Story specifics for the new film are under wraps.
Bell joins a franchise that includes a voice cast such as Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles and Keanu Reeves as Shadow.
The human cast of these films include Jim Carrey as the villainous Dr. Robotnik, Lee Majdoub as his devout assistant Agent Stone, and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Sonic’s adopted family.
It’s not clear at present which actors are expected to return to reprise their parts from the previous films.
The three movies have surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, with critical acclaim also increasing with each entry.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 4” is set for a March 19th 2027 release.
