AFI Names 2025’s Top 10 Films & TV Shows

Warner Bros. Pictures

The American Film Institute has announced its annual Top 10 films of the year list, which essentially reaffirms what has been a fairly widely held sentiment – great year for television, weak year for movies.

The ten films that made the list for this year were: “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” “Bugonia,” “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Jay Kelly,” “Marty Supreme,” “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” “Train Dreams,” and “Wicked: For Good”. A special award was handed out to “It Was Just an Accident”.

As it’s the AFI, the list doesn’t really have any obvious overseas titles like “Sentimental Value,” “No Other Choice” or “The Secret Agent,” but it also missing some of the more lauded indies like “Rebuilding” and “Sorry, Baby” as well as some of the best received studio & streamer fare like “Black Bag,” “F1,” “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” and “Weapons”.

The institute also announced its Top 10 TV series of 2025 with this one being: “Adolescence,” “Andor,” “Death by Lightning,” “The Diplomat,” “The Lowdown,” “The Pitt,” “Pluribus,” “Severance,” “The Studio,” and “Task”.

A few snubs there including “Paradise,” “Slow Horses,” “The Last of Us,” “Dying for Sex,” “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” “The White Lotus,” and “Nobody Wants This”.
