Netflix

Netflix has handed out an official green light for a new TV series adaptation of Ira Levin’s famed novel “The Boys From Brazil”.

The property was famously adapted to the screen as a five-time Oscar nominated film in 1978 and followed

In his first series role since “Succession,” Jeremy Strong will star as Yakov Liebermann, a famed Nazi hunter who is drawn to investigate a conspiracy suggesting the notorious Dr. Josef Mengele is in South America working on a diabolical and ambitious plan to re-establish the Third Reich.

Gillian Anderson, August Diehl, Daniel Brühl, Shira Haas and Lizzy Caplan will also star in the series that is being penned by Peter Morgan (“The Crown,” “Frost/Nixon”), who will executive produce alongside Suzanne Mackie (“Misbehaviour”), Simon Heath, Oona O’Beirn and Andy Stebbing.

The property was previously adapted into a 1978 feature film that starred Laurence Olivier as Liebermann and Gregory Peck as Mengele. That film was nominated for three Oscars, including for Olivier’s lead role.

Alex Gabassi (“Black Doves”) will direct the new take for the streamer, which will begin shooting in the U.K., Bulgaria and Spain in December.
