In a posting on Truth Social on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump called for the firing of NBC late-night show host Seth Meyers.
In the past week, Meyers has repeatedly joked about Trump in his monologues that have covered the U.S. government shutdown, health care plans, and the ongoing controversy over the Jeffrey Epstein files. Meyers also joked about= Democrats such as Joe Biden and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Trump said in his posting: “NBC’s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). He was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!.”
What came after raised eyebrows as Brendan Carr, the chairman of the FCC, reshared the posting on his X account.
Carr’s name became a household one in September over his apparent threat to take action against ABC over Jimmy Kimmel’s remarks – within hours Nexstar and Sinclair pulled “Jimmy Kimmel Live” off the air and kick-started a flood of global news headlines with Kimmel back on the air about a week later following significant backlash.
Meyers has not publicly responded to Trump’s call for his firing, but is expected to address it on his show.
