Valve Unveils Its New Steam Machine

Valve

Gabe Newell’s Valve and his Steam video game market platform is getting into the console business.

The company announced three new products today – a new VR headset called the Steam Frame, a new controller called Steam Controller and a console-like unit called the Steam Machine.

Valve plans to ship all three products in the same regions they currently ship Steam Deck starting early 2026, with specific launch timing and pricing to be confirmed later.

Whereas the previous attempt at a Steam Machine failed years ago – this is different. This will be a single system created and sold by Valve with set specs that will be the same across all units, much more akin to a regular game console or its own Steam Deck.

The console will boast “over six times the horsepower of Steam Deck” and is designed to allow PC games to be played on the TV.

It has a 1 Gigabit ethernet connection, DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0, built-in wireless adapter, as well as one USB-C port and four USB-A ports. It will also come in 512GB and 2TB storage options. Its power supply will be built-in, no power brick.

Valve promises it will offer “4K gaming at 60 fps with FSR” and is essentially like a PlayStation and Xbox in that it will boast a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU, RDNA3 GPU (28CUs) and 16GB RAM,

The machine reportedly “keeps cool and runs whisper-quiet, even while running the most demanding games.” The Steam Machine will also stream games to other devices, including the Steam Deck, Steam Frame or any other device running Steam or Steam Link.

Much like with the Steam Decck, there will be a ‘Steam Machine Verified program’ letting owners see at a glance how well each game will run on the device.

The nickname ‘GabeCube’ is already circling on social media in response to the news.
