Rambo Prequel Aims For A Lighter Tone

Get ready for a kindler, gentler Rambo for the upcoming prequel.

Filmmaker Jalmari Helander is helming the project that will star Noah Centineo in the title role and which serves as a prequel to the five Sylvester Stallone-led movies.

The previous films were all violent affairs, but have had wildly differing tones. They began with the almost melancholy and haunting “First Blood,” slipped into high-action ra-ra patriotism and militarism for the second and third film, and turned into quite dark dramas in the fourth and fifth films.

In a recent interview with Dexerto, Helander says the series is taking a different, more adventurous and lighter approach than the previous films as it explores John Rambo’s early years during the Vietnam War.

He says: “It won’t be as dark as the last two Rambos… It’s going to be a little more adventurous, and I hope to inspire a new generation of 10-year-olds to go into the forest to play Rambo. Let’s see how that goes.”

Helander confirmed last month that ‘hard prep’ was underway on the project with the director travelling to Bangkok ahead of filming commencing in January.
