Charlie Plummer, Stephen Graham, Toni Collette, Isabela Merced, Maisy Stella and Anthony Hopkins have all joined the cast of the “World of Warcraft”-themed true story tale “Ibelin” at Vendôme Pictures and Pathé.
The film is a dramatization of the real life story previously told in the Emmy-nominated documentary “The Remarkable Life of Ibelin”.
The story is a look at the life of Norwegian gamer Mats Steen and his virtual alter ego in World of Warcraft. Steen suffered from a degenerative muscular disease, but enjoyed a rich digital life under the name ‘Ibelin’ within the “World of Warcraft” game.
The film will explore both the group of “World of Warcraft” fans who became admirers of Steen, as well as his chaotic and loving family. Steen passed away at the age of 25 in 2014.
Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game”) directs from a screenplay by BAFTA nominee Ilaria Bernardini (“Citadel: Diana”) and Oscar nominee Hossein Amini (“Drive”).
Steen’s blog Musings of Life, which detailed his life and relationships, will be used for source material. Tyldum, Guri Neby, Jérôme Seydoux, Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi are producing. Shooting begins Spring or Summer 2026.
