Netflix has reportedly been quietly developing an animated series based on the beloved “Crash Bandicoot” video game franchise.
Developed as a flagship exclusive for the original Sony PlayStation in 1996, the game series originated from developer Naughty Dog, who later became more famous for their “Uncharted” and “The Last of Us” games.
It has subsequently changed hands several times and delivered multiple games, with the franchise getting a major resurgence in 2017 with the release of the remaster “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy” and the subsequent “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time”.
WildBrain Studios, which was behind Netflix TV series “Sonic Prime” and “Carmen Sandiego,” is the animation studio behind the new series. Story details are under wraps, and the voice cast for the series has yet to be revealed.
This marks the first major time the icon will front his own series, though various attempts have been made in the past to adapt the property – Activision and Amazon Studios were collaborating on one just a few years ago.
The character did appear in guest roles in the “Skylanders Academy” series with “Our Flag Means Death” star Rhys Darby being one of the actors lending his voice to the character.
