Oscar nominee Colman Domingo (“Euphoria,” “The Madness,” “The Running Man”) has secretly joined the cast of next month’s “Wicked: For Good” as the voice of the Cowardly Lion.
The actor shared the news via his Instagram account on Monday. The film’s director Jon M. Chu teased last week that a big-name actor was attached to the role.
The character is one of several key protagonist roles from the original “The Wizard of Oz” who appear in the new film. The actors who are playing The Tin Man and Scarecrow have not been officially announced, but those familiar with the musical will know why and it will become clear for everyone else once the film opens.
The same goes for Dorothy Gale who appears in the film, but only from behind or in the distance, so it’s not clear if a name star will even play her.
Domingo joins a cast that includes Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba/The Wicked Witch of the West, Ariana Grande as Glinda/The Good Witch of the South, Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard.
starring as Elphaba (now known as the Wicked Witch of the West in the second film) and Glinda (or Glinda the Good), respectively.
“Wicked: For Good” opens in cinemas on November 21st.
