Midler Offers “Hocus Pocus 3” Update

Oscar nominee Bette Middler showed up on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live show this week and confirmed that a script for a third film in the “Hocus Pocus” franchise is out there.

Asked about the status of the new film, Midler says those involved are currently working out the logistics of the production:

“Well, you know, they sent a script. And a lot of it was brilliant. So, I got very excited, and now we’re trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost and all those logistical things.”

Midler starred as Salem witch Winifred Sanderson in the original 1993 family theatrical release. She reunited with her onscreen sisters Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy for the 2022 sequel which set a streaming record for the Disney+ service.

Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, subsequently confirmed a third movie was in development but at last report back in July, Parker indicated there had only been early discussions.

Midler also confirmed in the same interview that serious attempts were made at a sequel to “The First Wives Club” and said “something was going on at Paramount” which saw the studio dig in their heels and refuse to proceed.
