HBO Max’s “Peacemaker” ended its second season and with it comes one plot element that will be key to the DCU moving forward – Salvation.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “PEACEMAKER” SEASON 2
Salvation is a newly discovered dimension, a seemingly lush green world without humans that Rick Flagg Sr. (Frank Grillo) intends to use as a prison for metahumans and potentially other criminals. He now has a direct door to it within ARGUS, one which only briefly appears in a random spot on the Salvation end each time it accesses that dimension.
In a recent discussion with Comic Book Resources, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that four characters will play significant roles in the DCU’s Salvation storyline – Superman, Lex Luthor, Rick Flag Sr. and Chris Smith/Peacemaker. He tells CBR:
“There’s a bigger story being told that involves, say, Salvation. And so that story – it involves Rick Flag. It involves Lex and Superman. There are those movies that I’m going to be directing. That’s the plan right now, at least.”
In a follow-up to that on Threads, he was asked about Peacemaker’s DCU future to which Gunn said:
“ofc. He’s instrumental… Where Chris is at the end, what is happening between the government and the metahumans, Rick and Lex’s new partnership, and all of their decision to do what they did is all a part of the future, MoT, and more”
The recent season finale of “Peacemaker” saw itself review-bombed with disproportionate number of 1/10 scores and manhy of the reviews seemingly upset that the finale didn’t sport a major DCU cameo – rather instead focusing on the core characters of the show. Others had more serious issues with the finale’s creative choices overall, either way it seems to have ended the season on a dud note.
The next DCU effort is “Supergirl,” opening June 26th 2026, and “Man of Tomorrow” opening July 9th 2027.
