Focus Features has premiered the full-length trailer for “Nomadland,” “The Rider” and “Eternals” director Chloe Zhao’s new historical drama film “Hamnet”.
The feature is based on Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel of the same name, a fictional spin on actual people. The story centers on Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare, who is mourning the loss of her son, Hamnet.
It charts the consequences, on emotional and artistic levels, that loss brings to our lives and, in this case, serves as the backdrop to the creation of Shakespeare’s most famous play Hamlet.
The cast also includes Joe Alwyn as Barthomew, Emily Watson as Mary Shakespeare, Jack Shalloo as Marcellus, and David Wilmot as John, with Jacobi Jupe as Hamnet Shakespeare.
Zhao directs from a screenplay she co-wrote with O’Farrell. Liza Marshall, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Gonda, Sam Mendes, and Steven Spielberg produce.
The film played the Fall festival circuit and is one of the best reviewed films of the year along with being considered a serious awards contender. “Hamnet” is currently slated to arrive in select theatres on November 27th before expanding nationwide on December 12th.
