Paramount Pictures has released the first photo from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 — Lost in New Jersey,” a new short film set in the same universe as the 2023 TMNT animated feature “Mutant Mayhem”.
The new short will make its debut in cinemas attached to copies of “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” which releases in cinemas on December 19th.
Kent Seki directs the short, which has the titular brothers travelling to New Jersey for the first time in the middle of winter due to a mishap. They find themselves going up against a mysterious toy company which has been exploiting the turtles’ newfound fame.
They also come across a shocking discovery. Seki says in a statement to Variety that the aim is to honor the franchise’s history:
“We wanted to honor the Ninja Turtles’ history while asking what would happen if we put them somewhere completely unfamiliar. New Jersey became the perfect backdrop because it’s so close to New York, yet has its own energy and quirks that challenge the turtles in new ways.”
Seki adds should it be a success, more shorts set in this world could be on the way. A sequel to ‘Mutant Mayhem’, one in which Shredder is the antagonist, is in the works with the aim of releasing on September 17th 2027.
