Gunn has offered an update on “The Authority” movie and how that DC Universe title is progressing.
In February this year, he indicated of all the IPs announced during the Phase 1 reveal plans for the DCU, “The Authority” had been the hardest one to crack.
He said at the time: “(It’s) the one that got messed with through all of the other things that were happening. The script had a harder time coming along”
Speaking this week with Deadline, he says the project is still alive and says “there’s someone who is a really good creator who talked to me the other day” about the project.
The trade speculates that the project could be turned into a series instead of a film. Gunn responded: “Who knows. I’m probably not going to do certain movies with characters who (audiences) don’t know; it’s harder to get people in the theater for that kind of thing.”
The Authority are a group of antiheroes who take matters into their own hands, despite what the world’s governments advise. “Superman” introduced one of the team’s core members with The Engineer.
James Gunn was also asked about that “Man of Tomorrow” script photo he teased the other day, specifically if that shot was a tease of Brainiac. Gunn tells EW: “Of course I wasn’t unaware that when I posted the cover of the script that there was going to be discussion around that particular topic. But I think we’ll hold off from what exactly is happening.”
